It is literally just the pictures from my iPhone 8 that were converted from HEIC to JPG that take forever to load thumbnails and images, and I'm assuming it's cause the file sizes are huge, but not 100% certain why. I'd like to add, I now have an iPhone 11 that takes much better quality photos (I made sure to set my phone to take JPG immediately so it never takes HEIC) and these JPG load immediately on my computer. Because of this, the thumbnails STILL take forever to load. HOWEVER, the converted images are very large. I found iMazing HEIC converter which keeps the EXIF data. Most converters wiped the EXIF data, so I did not want to use those. So I tried several converters to convert from HEIC to JPG. Sometimes they just never load altogether. I'm running Windows 10 and tried to download the HEIC viewer application, but it is so ridiculously slow in loading the image thumbnails. (the solution offered in the link simply transfers them as HEIC files, which I've done). It just keeps freezing 2 minutes into the transfer and says "Device is unreachable", and apparently this is a pretty common issue with iPhones converting the file type: Apple also has the option to convert them to JPEG as they are transferring (so they keep all the EXIF data), but this wasn't working for me.
When I try to transfer the photos and videos to my PC, it works if I keep them as HEIC in the transfer.

I ended up taking about 7.5k photos until I decided to upgrade my phone and transfer these photos. I have an iPhone 8 and I have computers that run windows.Īpple updates made it so my pictures were being taken as HEIC files on my iPhone 8, which I did not realize. I'm really not tech savvy and any help would be appreciated.
